Space & setting.

There is a risk to visiting this property: that you’ll be spoilt for holidaying elsewhere for ever more. There are few spots in Scotland (some would argue the world) as spectacularly romantic as this. Built to both withstand and be immersed in the elemental landscape, the minimalist larch structure strikes a cool silhouette on secluded croft land. Inside, super high-spec yet understated interiors allow nature to take centre stage. With Loch Bracadale in front of you, The Cullin mountains to the east and Macleod’s Tables to the west, the ever-shifting light means views constantly evolve.

Soak up the morning sun from your kingsized bed; a remote whizzes up the blinds of the floor-to-ceiling windows so you don’t even have to get up. Or revel in the luxury of 2 outdoor decks – one for sunrise, the other for sunset. And after a day’s hiking or adventuring through the extraordinary wilderness around you, buy freshly caught lobster from your fisherman neighbour, then light the log burner and toast the utter perfection of this Scottish sanctuary.

Getting here: you’ll need to drive

“We first visited Skye 20 years ago, for a weekend in November, where we were bombarded with the typical mixture of Skye weather; lashing horizontal rain, howling gales, moody seas, clear skies and a million shooting stars. The island hooked us and we eventually made a leap of faith to buy an amazing croft with a tiny golden beach for our family home, and moved here from London. We’ve since established a new business here, building 2 contemporary holiday rentals with design-led interiors that work in harmony with the landscape. This is our newest.” Owners Jason and Sarah

My Kip favourites

They love
“Towards the end of every summer a very large pod of dolphins swim into the loch, where they can be spotted splashing and hunting for several weeks. We love watching them from the cabin; its location allows us to follow them as they move around the lochs on either side.”

We love
The exquisite pared-back interiors. An on-trend colour palette of pinks and greys, and a Scandi feel.

Staying here is a splurge, a lot more expensive than other Kip properties but we couldn’t resist it! A minimum 3, 4 or 7-night stay. In winter, Skye is very windy and sometimes stormy, both of which are very noisy here. Sorry, no dogs allowed.

  • "Probably the most extraordinary place we’ve ever stayed at. It is perfect in every sense and exceeded even our wildest expectations."

Sustainability.

Extremely well insulated, with underfloor heating by an air source heat pump.

Surrounds.

  • Neist Point by cisko66
  • Walk from your doorstep to beautiful Harlosh Point at the edge of the peninsula; you’ll spy caves, ruins and masses of birds en route.
  • For invigorating blasts of sea air, drive 20 minutes south, park up at Oronsay Path in Ullinish, and hike along the sea cliffs and over to a tidal island. Or for a little more challenge and far-reaching views, take on the flat-top hills of Maclead’s Tables.
  • Go adventuring, either freestyle or with the help of guides (Sea Skye Tours, Skye Adventure, or Skye Ghillie are recommended). You can try coasteering, rock climbing, fly fishing and foraging amongst the craggy landscapes, or go on a rib tour to spot dolphins and sea eagles.
  • Book ahead for dinner at the Michelin-starred Loch Bay. Based in the old fishing village of Stein, it makes the most of Skye’s natural larder – beautifully dressed-up seafood, foraged seaweed and just-picked mushrooms.
  • Drive to Neist Point Lighthouse for sunset. The views from the westerly tip of the island are uninterrupted for miles and, without exaggeration, it really does feel like you’re at the ends of the earth. Tip: check the forecast isn’t cloudy; it’s worth saving this sundowner for a clear sky.
